The Florida Boppers Inc. (FBI) was formed as a dance club in Oct 1989.
The founders were Bill Maddox, Bryan Thomas and Joel Brown. Originally there were approximately
70 charter
members. FBI members started having weekly dances at Thunderbird Lounge
and later moved to T-Birds lounge, Crawdaddy's, Bimini lounge and
finally call Club Savoy
home. FBI members now have monthly parties on the second Saturday of every month. The club
is governed by a Board of Directors who meet the second Monday
of every month to plan current and future dance functions of the club.
The FBI also performs dance demonstrations at various events around
Jacksonville. The Club's
colors are turquoise and white. The club's newsletter is called the
"Informer."
We are approximately 300 members strong, and we usually dance to
R&B and "Beach" music. We swing, shag, and bop at parties
in Jacksonville and travel to dance events all across the country.*
